Simon Sukonik - Presentation Scheduling Manager
I'm responsible for the management of our 3 channels transmission schedules ensuring they are editorially sound and technically accurate; this includes event & promotion planning, EPG creation & management and tape traffic & video server management.
I was asked to come and work at sit-up in August 2000 coming from Carlton Digital Channels, I was told I would be working at a pioneering new company that would offer the viewer exciting and interactive consumer television – how could I turn down that opportunity?
I have obviously seen lots of changes in the seven years I've been with the company; it has grown from a workforce of less than 30 people when I started to a large company with more than 600 staff. The work culture has always been engaging and focused but with a relaxed attitude, which is really important to me because you need to have fun at work.
The most challenging part of my day is ensuring we are making the most of the opportunities in the schedule to encourage viewers to join us at particular times and using the limited promotional airtime available creatively to turn viewers into customers. What I really enjoy about my job is how my work has an impact on air and directs viewers to watch at particular times.
Working in a fairly small creative group is very empowering and enables me to feel that I am making a difference. I always feel that everyone is totally approachable no matter what position they hold and I believe this is an intrinsic value of the company.
Karen Jones - Buying Manager
When I arrived in 2001 there were only 3 buyers. I used to go up to Manchester in my car and wouldn't come back until we had spent all our money. Everyday is different it's like being on a trading floor in the city, lots of mails, lots of people, lots of noise and lots of products. I love it!
The best challenge is bringing new product to air and trying to convince the whole business that it's going to be a best seller.
It's never the same each day. One day I am knee deep in duvets in a factory in China and then another day I am meeting Linda Barker talking about products to develop with my buyer. The product range is immense as I cover the whole of homewares so everyday there are lots of different products on the division including pans, towels, crystal animals and signed football shirts to name but a few.
I have been here for 6 years and seen a huge amount of change but there has always been the passion and the drive. The people here are amazing! I work with a great bunch of people who are always there to offer opinions whether it's good or bad. My line manager Denise Shane is awesome, she constantly encourages and motivates me and gives me a tremendous amount of support.
